THE KEY FINDINGS OF QUICK NEEDS ASSESSMENT ON NEWLY DISPLACED PEOPLE FROM TUKARAQ

On January 8, 2018, a sudden night attack, Somaliland took control of Tukaraq village and then tensions between Puntland and Somaliland have escalated. This confrontation has displaced 80% of Tukaraq population and they displaced to Boocame, Dhuumod Jabay, Kurso Dabaley, Taleex, Faleydhyaale, Godqaboobe and Buuro-wadal which are not far from Tukaraq. 40% of these displaced people were drought affected who have been in dire humanitarian situation.

Tukaraq is a town in the East of the Sool region and is located on the road between Laascaano and Garowe with coordinate of 8° 40′ 59″ N 47° 11′ 40″ E and it has a custom. The population in Tukaraq is estimated 1,800.

Ministry of Interior (MOI) of Puntland sent a team to the areas hosting the displaced people from Tukaraq to assess their humanitarian needs and the below are the key findings of the assessment.
